Optimal Training: Saturday, February 18
Our runs this week will be 7 miles, 9 miles, 12 miles, and 16 miles.
Our seminar topic will be on the challenge of finding our optimal level of training. Most of this club’s runners are exceptionally motivated which accounts for much of the success everyone has enjoyed. Yet, there is a “sweet spot” in training where we achieve optimal adaptive levels from our training and see great improvement in our performance. If we challenge and stress our bodies too much we may fall short of over-training but hit maximal adaptive levels. Maximal levels stress our bodies so much that we do not see improvements in our performance. Rather, we survive our training. The challenge for the highly motivated runner is to find that balance and optimal level of training. Here is a great article that goes into much greater depth: Finding Your Sweet Spot.
