Rexburg Hershey’s Track & Field

The Hershey Youth Program, celebrating its 32nd anniversary this year, has involved millions of youngsters from all 50 states in the U.S. and all provinces in Canada. The program is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship.

Madison High School Stadium (2nd North and 5th East), Rexburg

Age Groups
7-8 yr. olds, 9-10 yr. olds, 11-12 yr. olds, 13-14 yr. olds (age is as of 12/31/10)
Divisions: girls, boys

Events by Age Group
7-8 year olds: 50 meter dash*, 100m*, 200m*, 400m*, standing long jump*, softball throw*
9-10 year olds: 50 meter dash, 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay*, standing long jump, softball throw
11-12 year olds: 100 meter dash, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4x100m relay*, standing long jump, softball throw
13-14 year olds: 100 meter dash, 200m, 800m, 1600m, 4x100m relay, standing long jump, softball throw

In each event, the top three finishers from Rexburg and the top three finishers from outside of Rexburg qualify for the State meet in Rexburg, July 10.

State meet winners are entered into a regional pool and are considered for selection to a Regional Team which will travel to Hershey, PA to compete in the North American Final, August 5-8, 2010.

* these starred events are not contested at the Hershey’s North American Final.

Rule Highlights
Participants may enter only one Hershey’s meet prior to the State Meet.

Participants should wear a modest t-shirt, shorts (long pants, sweats are okay), and shoes. Relay teams need not be in matching clothing. Participants may not wear shoes designated for spikes. In field events, any shoes designed for turf sports are not allowed. Participants may not compete in their bare feet, slippers or socks.

Participants may enter a maximum of three events, but no more than two running events, including a relay. Exceptions: 9-10 year olds and 11-12 year old entered in a relay, may enter one more event.

Participants entering a relay may wait to enter the names of all four members of their team until 30 minutes following the completion of their age group’s 100 meter dash competition.
Starting blocks are not permitted. Each running competitor is allowed one false start.

In the relay, the acceleration zone will not be used and aids may not be used.

Attendants (parents, coaches, etc.) may not accompany a competitor to the starting area. Parents and other family members should remain in the stands or outside the fence after the meet begins.

A participant will be disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Alcohol and tobacco products are prohibited on school grounds.
